Lifecycle of a project

In todays session we have looked at what a lifecycle of a product is and how it is a part of project management.
We created a diagram with annotations to explain each step within a product lifecycle within a project and that diagram can be seen below.

Quality and 5 Methods to Monitor.

What is Quality.
Quality is how well a product is made and if it is fit for purpose within everyday use and this can go on a few factors e.g. Does it work? Does it reach all of the criteria that it is advertised to do so? The quality of a product can also go on people's expectations so it might be of good quality to one person yet might not be up to standard for someone else.

5 Methods for monitoring quality.

Self Checking - This is a form of monitoring quality and this is when you understand the requirements for the product you have made and check to see if the product fits all the requirements.

Supervisor Review - This is when a supervisor within your organisation will have a checklist of criteria that the project should acquire and he will tick whatever is already in check and alert the producer to the problems and criteria missed.

Peer Review - A Peer review is when a fellow colleague or friend, does the same as the supervisor and checks to see if all the criteria is matched and lets the original maker know where has been missed.

External Review - An external review is when the product made is taken and assessed for the criteria externally and then brought back into the manufacturers for the faults to be fixed.

Triple Constraints of Project Management

Triple Constraints Of Project Management
Scope: Scope is the features that are originally planned to enter the project and can change dependent on the scenario and can increase in size or decrease dependent on the other factors.

Cost: How much the resources within the project cost and this can increase or decrease dependent on other factors.

Time: Time is how long it takes to complete milestones within the project or the overall project.

Time reduces: If time reduces the cost of the project will have to increase to gain more workforce or the scope will have to decrease by losing features to speed the project up yet that will sacrifice the final projects quality.

Budget Reduces: If the budget decreases the time will have to be extended to complete the project as the amount of resources will wear thin and no new staff can be hired due to no money. The scope will also have to decrease losing features as due to the budget being decreased there won't be enough resources to fully complete the project.

Scope Increases: If the scope increases this will increase the budget as more materials/resources will need to be purchased and extra labour to add in the new features to the already designed product, and the time length to release will have to be put at a higher amount as deadlines will be knocked due to additional extra features.

5 Key Skills of a successful Project Manager.

5 Key Skills of a successful Project Manager.
Clear Communication - This is a key skill because if the project is a wide scale one, information will need to be passed around quit often to the different areas of the project and if the project manager cant communicate clearly information may be changed by the time it reaches the intended target and could possibly slow the movement of the project down.
Organised - Organisation is a key skill because if within the project some targets that need to be fulfilled can only be achieved once a seperate task is completed if the project isnt organised their wont be set deadlines for tasks to be completed and it can possibly slow down the whole project all together.
Thinking Ahead - Thinking ahead is a key skill because it helps with organisation of the project due to if all moves within the project are done at the time theyre needed to complete the project, if something backfires and they have to go back in reverse, time and money will have been wasted for a failed attempt at a task wheras if each task is fully though through ahead of the time, everything will move more smoothly.
Delegation of tasks - Delegation of tasks correctly is a key skill as a project manager due to it allowing the right tasks to be distributed to the people who can complete those tasks to the best of their ability and makes sure people arent placed on the wrong tasks and then get stuck.
Leadership - Leadership is a key skill to have as a project manager because if you dont have the leadership skill it will be extremely hard to take charge if the project  is running off course and its your job to get it back on track and operational again.

What is a project?

What is a project?
A project is a journey/endeavour that a singular person or a group of people take to create an end goal of maybe a new product or an organised event and that project can range from putting up wallpaper in a house to organising a charity football game within wembley stadium. Projects are never permenant they will only ever be temporary however the time frame within these projects can alter dependent on the size of the original project. Their is many steps when it comes to planning a project as their has to be the team leader if it is a group project or just a singular person if it is an individual project. Resources will have to be considered whilst planning a project to make sure you have everything you need before the start and to make sure everything stays on time.

What is Unit 17 about?

What is Unit 17 about?

Unit 17 is about Project management and how projects are started, what happens during each process throughout the project and how they are able to come to a conclusion without all the complications that may arise. Another step within Unit 17 is not only planning and executing a project yet reviewing the entire project and finding what parts were done correctly and efficiently and what other parts could have been improved to be more efficient.
